BT SPORT pundits have each picked a Champions League ‘Immortal XI’ – with Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi in EACH team.

But only via the XIs of seven of BT’s most well-known experts TWO English play a role.

Looking back on the 30 years of the Champions League era, ronaldo and messi were always present in the selected teams BT experts.

Former Pros Rio FerdinandPeter Crouch, Joe Cole, Michael Owen, Owen Hargreaves, Glenn Hoddle and Steve McManaman all offered their expert opinions.

Elegant Italian defender Paolo Maldini is the only other player to appear in all seven ‘Immortals XI’.

But with three titles in the Champions League era and two in the old days of European Cup, you can see why.

A notable theme of the Immortal XI’s was the lack of an English contingent, despite the success of the Prem clubs in the competition.

Just two Three Lions feature in the seven XIs, with Crouch picking a former Liverpool team-mate Steven Gerhard in the center of his midfield.

Gerrard single-handedly pulled Liverpool back in the 2005 Champions League final against AC Milan and lifted the trophy in what is perhaps the most famous Champions League final of all time.

Meanwhile, Cole chose his namesake, Ashley Coleas a left-back in his XI.

The two played together Chelseaand Cole was instrumental in helping the Blues lift the trophy in 2012.

But such as John Terry and Wayne Rooneyboth winners of the competition, were not selected.
