There are only six episodes left in the This is us Saga and so many loose ends to tie. Finally we know exactly how KaToby broke upsay a bittersweet farewell on the couple’s marriage, but perhaps he’s welcoming a newfound supportive dynamic between the two.
However, we still don’t know if Randall will find success in the Senate (all bets are yes) who Kevin ends with, or what will be the dynamic between Rebecca and her children on her deathbed. However, after a panel at PaleyFest a few weeks ago, it’s clear that the cast finally knows what to expect in the final episode.
From the start, the creators of the show planned a limited series arc
Covid threw a wrench into the original timeline by delaying filming, but This is us was never intended to continue indefinitely. “We never set out to do a television series that would last 18 seasons, so we have a very direct plan,” show creator Dan Fogelman said in 2019, per parade.
Fogelman has discussed over the course of subsequent seasons that everything went according to plan — even though not all episodes were written. In fact, he admitted it Filming some of the series finale scenes all the way back to 2019 as the plan was to use some of the younger cast who would naturally outgrow their characters by the time the finale was filmed.
Though fans remain loyal to the show and clamor for more seasons or maybe even spin-offs, Fogelman has remained committed to its current six-season run. The creator of the series is careful never to say neverbut for now, the series finale in May will be all he writes about the Pearson clan.
In early April, Dan Fogelman penned the final words of “This Is Us.”
Although the plan and main themes have existed for several years, it is only recently that Fogelman put the finishing touches to the Pearson family story. In the This is us During PaleyFest in early April, Fogelman said he had just finished writing the final episode the night before.
“It’s funny because I’ve been away for the last week. So I literally finished writing the finale.” today reported. Milo Ventimiglia, who plays Jack Pearson, confirmed the news. “We all got a text from Dan last night saying, ‘Guys, I just finished.'”
The event’s host asked Fogelman if fans were happy with the outcome. Though he has shared writing duties with others, including cast members Chrissie Metz (Kate Pearson) and Susan Kelechi Watson (Beth Pearson) For a few episodes this season, Fogelman took on the burden of completing the entire series on his shoulders. “We took it very seriously. I wrote the last two episodes,” Fogelman said. “I am very confident.”
Fogelman said he’s been waiting to write the series’ final words, but that the episode closes the show exactly as he envisioned it when he began work on it eight years ago.
The cast was very emotional about the final season
This is us Season 6 was, as usual, an emotional rollercoaster ride for the cast and fans. Although some fans are disappointed with the details Kate and Toby have split upothers are sad but find beauty in it – the same way Fogelman hoped they would. With a few more major plot points to solve, including how Miguel and Rebecca eventually get together, and more about the lives of the Pearson kids, it’s safe to say there could be more divisive moments.
According to Fogelman, the penultimate episode was so painful it caused Mandy Moore (Rebecca Pearson) sucks. Metz had trouble breathing while reading. And though we’d prefer to end in fairy tale style, Ventimiglia has already warned that not everyone gets the happy ending we want. With the belly punches fans have already endured this season, it’s a safe bet we’ll be reaching for tissues by May 24th.
