Cream Cheese – The Latest Victim of the Supply Chain Crisis – CBS Baltimore

BALTIMORE (WJZ) – It seems that no product has escaped a supply chain crisis, and cream cheese is no exception.

Maryland restaurants say the contagious staple is becoming increasingly difficult to find, which has put some businesses in a bind.

“You can’t have a bagel without cream cheese,” says Tony Scott, chief executive officer of THB Bagelry. “They go well together.”

Scott is not wrong. Bagels and cream cheese are an iconic pairing, but this pairing is now in danger of being split.

Shops and restaurants have recently struggled to keep cream cheese in stock.

Deborah Strong of Reisterstown said: “When I went to Wegman’s a few weeks ago I couldn’t find the cream cheese I wanted and they said they were having a problem. “And I think, if Wegman’s is having problems, I think everyone is.”

Not everyone — THB Bagelry and Deli have now avoided the supply chain problem.

“However, we have been able to work with our caterers over the past three weeks to get all the cream cheeses we need,” Scotto said.

Scotto said the chain has enough cream cheese to last through the year. But since it has an expiration date, it’s only possible to buy so many things at a time.

THB uses more than 2,000 pounds of cream cheese each week at its six locations. They buy in bulk in bulk.

Scotto said things are going well for the chain, which has opened two new locations during the pandemic.

He remains optimistic about this shortfall.

“As a business owner, I worry about that,” Scotto said. “As the leader of the company, I try to stay positive.”

While TBH is not worried about supply for the rest of the year, Scotto expects the supply chain issues to be resolved soon, so they are not a source of concern in 2022. Cream Cheese – The Latest Victim of the Supply Chain Crisis – CBS Baltimore
