COVID IN COLORADO: Record number of cases reported on January 5

DENVER (KDVR) – State health department update nearly doubled the number of COVID cases seen at the height of the fall 2020 wave.

Last week, the Colorado Department of Public Health and the Environment said a reporting error was missing the number of COVID cases on January 5 and January 6. Monday, it released updated figures. . On January 5, Colorado had a total of 17,438 new cases reported to the state and another 10,618 as of January 6.

These are preliminary figures that may change as the state collects more data.

This is more than double the daily case count of the fall 2020 wave when the peak number of cases recorded was 7,000 cases per day.

The death rate has been falling since last fall. However, that data is often several weeks behind the case and hospitalization data.
