Coronation Street stars Emmerdale and Hollyoaks join Vera series 11 with huge cast change

VERA returns to ITV on Sunday, January 9, with a few faces joining the lead role of Brenda Blethyn, who plays Detective Chief Inspector Vera Stanhope.

BrendaThe 75-year-old will star alongside a host of guest stars, with several new names confirmed for the popular 11th crime series just days before it hits the small screen.

Netizens teased fans with a few episodes of the new series late last summer, right before filming had to be halted due to the pandemic.

The first two episodes are set in and around Tynemouth and Northumberland National Parks.

A clip dropped by ITV It was revealed last week that one of the highly anticipated upcoming episodes will be titled Tyger Tyger.

This installment will see DCI Stanhope attempt to solve the murder of a security guard during a robbery at a container port, only to have the plot thicken with the kidnapping of the dead man’s son.

Last month, a number of guest stars – including former disabled actress Jaye Griffiths, Corrie alum Bill Ward, and former Line of Duty star Craig Parkinson – were announced to join the show.

Charlie, 61, is perhaps best known for playing Val Pollard in the much-loved ITV drama series Emmerdale from 2004-2015 and then again in 2017 – a role for which she was nominated seven times at the British Soap Awards.

However, some fans may remember her as the Sian youth frontman in Byker Grove, the BBC show that launched the careers of television’s most beloved couple, Ant and Dec.

English actress who has also appeared in Ackley Bridge, The Royal, and Grumpy Old Women, as well as several stage productions, including Cooking With Elvis alongside Frank Skinner.

Joe, 63, has been in cinema since 1985, starring in the BBC medical drama Casualty and the TV series Prince Caspian, among others.

Most audiences of a certain age will recognize him as Charlie Burrows, the “butler” on the ITV sitcom The Upper Hand – the part he played between 1990-1996.

But younger Britons are more likely to know the Liverpool-born actor as Hollyoaks’ Surgeon Edward Hutchinson is highly charismatic and narcissistic.

Krissi, 38, started her television career on Law & Order UK, before moving on to the role of Jenna Kamara on the popular ITV channel Opening the street between 2012-2014.

More recently, she appeared as Lucie Denham in the BBC science fiction drama series Years and Years and the ITV anthology series Innocent.

The actress has also performed in many theatrical productions and received critical acclaim for her film The Bogus Woman for a Woman.
