Convicted killer escapes during Alabama layoff

A convicted murderer was at large Monday night after fleeing during a work-release program in Alabama over the weekend.
Kyle David, who was serving a 99-year sentence, went on the run while still wearing his prison garb after leaving “an assigned work station” at 5:15 p.m. Saturday, the Alabama Department of Justice said.
The 49-year-old was still on the ministry’s escape list on Tuesday.
David had been assigned to the Red Eagle Work Center and was listed as a “minimum-out” detainee prior to his escape, meaning he was suited to off-property details and was not considered a “significant risk” to himself or others , the WSFA reported.
David had been convicted of fatally shooting a man he allegedly sold drugs to, stuffing the body in a trunk and then setting the vehicle on fire, the station said. He was also convicted of arson for setting fire to a building owned by a company that fired him, the WSFA added.
David is described as being 5 feet 11 inches tall and weighing 190 pounds. Corrections officials urged anyone with information about his whereabouts to call (800) 831-8825.
