Connecticut pigs fend off a black bear attack in wild video

Wild video shows a pair of pigs fiercely fighting a large black bear that climbed into their pen in Connecticut.
The New Milford pigsty looked more like a wrestling ring when the bear scaled a fence earlier this month and began attacking one of the oinkers.
Ring security video obtained from NBC Connecticut showed a white pig named Mary leaning against the animal.
Hammy, a black pig that has been staying in a covered shelter by the pen, suddenly charges at the bear and corners it on its hind legs, dramatic footage shows.
After a few minutes, the contested bear jumps out of the pen.
Rebecca Shaw, who owns the therapy pigs, told the outlet she was proud of the brave animals.
“I’m very proud of her because Hammy, especially the little one, is scared of his own shadow and the way he came tumbling out when he saw Mary wrestling with the bear,” Shaw said. “He said, ‘Oh no, no way, get out.’

Shaw said an alarm usually goes off when there’s a disturbance in the backyard, but she didn’t hear it that night. She only found out about the bear after hearing her son and brother scream.
She said the bear initially looked “cute” in security footage as it stumbled around in the hay next to the pigsty – before jumping over the fence.
“That’s when I realized my pigs could defend themselves,” Shaw said, adding, “I thank God again because it could have ended very badly.”
