Comedian Nick Nemeroff dead at 32: fans mourn ‘sudden’ death

Comedian Nick Nemeroff died suddenly on Monday at the age of 32, his family said.

“It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden death of our beloved brother, Nick Nemeroff,” the statement read on Instagram.

“Nick’s dedication to standup comedy has been impressive and has produced amazing results.”

No cause of death was announced.

The Canadian-born comedian has appeared on Conan, appeared on Montreal’s Just For Laughs and was part of CBC Gem’s The New Wave of Standup. Nemeroff was recently on the second season of CTV Comedy’s Roast Battle Canada” to see.

His debut comedy album The Pursuit of Comedy Has Ruined My Life was released in 2020 and resulted in his being nominated for a 2021 Juno Award for Comedy Album of the Year.

Nemeroff attended the Royal West Academy and graduated from the Toronto Metropolitan University radio and television program, formerly known as Ryerson, according to Deadline.

“It garnered acclaim in Canada and the United States, becoming both a ‘comic comic’ and a hit with viewers who were enthralled by its unique cadence, labyrinthine emptiness and fresh approach to deceptive comedy,” his family said wrote.

“When Nick was on a comedy show, he was guaranteed to go with new fans. And he deserved it, because in many ways comedy was his life,” the statement continued. “Endlessly sweet, supportive of others, humbled by his many skills and accomplishments, Nick spent his life doing what he loved and it is how he will be remembered. RIP Nick. We love you.”

Nemeroff’s agency, Grand Wave Entertainment, released a statement TwitterShe wrote, “We are deeply saddened by the sudden death of Nick Nemeroff.”

The date and time of the funeral have yet to be announced. Instead of flowers, his family asked, “Donations in his memory can be made to the Planned Parenthood chapter of your choice,” explaining that “one of the last things Nick did was donate money to Planned Parenthood.”

Several of Nemeroff’s friends and fellow comedians took to social media to mourn his loss.

“It’s a devastating day for those who knew it,” said comedian Jon Dore wrote. “Nick Nemeroff was a handsome man. My condolences to his family and everyone in the comedy world. I admired him a lot.”

SNL actress Sarah Sherman tweeted that he was “the cutest and funniest guy ever” and encouraged her followers to check out his album.

“One of the absolute funniest guys and just a really gentle and genuine person. This one hurts,” comedian John Cullen said.

“This is incredibly sad news, @nicknemeroff was so original, kind and so funny,” said comedian Matt O’Brien wrote. “I can not believe that.”
