Christopher Broad was killed by friends shooting each other while wearing armored vests

A Florida teenager was killed and two of his friends arrested after they took turns shooting live rounds at each other while wearing armored vests, police said on Friday.

Christopher Broad, 16, was found Sunday in a home in Belleview with at least one gunshot wound. He was taken to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries, police said.

A subsequent investigation found that Broad and another boy, Joshua Vining, 17, took turns “shooting each other while wearing a vest that contained some form of body armor,” the Belleview Police Department said in a statement.

A third teenager, Colton Whitler, was present at the time of the tragedy and allegedly gave officers a false account of what happened, authorities said.

“Vining shot Broad while he was wearing the vest and he was hit,” the statement said.

Vining and Whitler were arrested in connection with Broad’s death on Thursday and face adult charges, police officers said.
