Oscars producers aren’t the only ones mulling over the idea of hiring Chris Rock to host an awards show.
According to Puck, the 57-year-old comedian was reportedly offered a ton of money to host the 2023 Golden Globes.
But the “Everybody Hates Chris” alum doesn’t seem to like the idea of raking in the big bucks by capitalizing on the viral moment of Will Smith, 53, taking to the stage and beating him at the 2022 Oscars, and declined the job.
The alleged request comes a few days after the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, the organization behind the Golden Globes, announced that it has signed a one-year deal with NBC to air the Globes on January 10, 2023.
This comes after the network pulled out of broadcasting the 2022 awards show due to a lack of diversity within the HFPA as well as alleged ethical misconduct.
Rock was also reportedly asked to host the Oscars next year but turned it down.
The Grown Ups star also claimed he was offered – but turned down – a post-slap Super Bowl commercial, according to AZ Central.
In fact, he hasn’t said much about the incident publicly at all. Instead, he worked the theme into his stand-up tour around the world with Dave Chapelle.
“Yeah, that hurt, motherfucker — but I shook that thing off and went to work the next day,” Rock said onstage while performing alongside Kevin Hart and Chappelle at Madison Square Garden in July. “Someone who says ‘Words hurt’ has never been slapped in the face.”
“I’m not a victim, motherfucker,” Rock declared the next day in Holmdel, New Jersey. “I don’t go to the hospital for a silhouette.”
But not everyone laughed when he joked in Phoenix, Arizona, that returning to the Oscars would be like asking Nicole Brown Simpson to “go back to the restaurant” where she left her glasses before she was killed .
During a UK show in Liverpool, Rock quipped to Chappelle, “The motherfucker hit me on a bulls-t joke, the nicest joke I’ve ever told,” referring to Smith.
Chappelle then took the mic and chimed in: “Will acted like a perfect human being for 30 years and he ripped off his mask and showed us he was just as ugly as the rest of us.
“Whatever the aftermath…I hope he doesn’t put his mask back on and let his true colors breathe,” he continued of the Men in Black star.
However, Smith publicly apologized in a YouTube video posted in July, but said Rock was “not ready” to speak privately.
The Post has reached out to representatives from Rock and the Golden Globes for comment.
