The Chicago Cubs A very difficult year is coming to an end. They got off to a promising start before things began to unravel. They then redeemed much of the core that won the World Series for them in 2016.
Javier Baez, Anthony Rizzo and Kris Bryant have all been traded to end an era. They even sent Craig Kimbrel, Ryan Tepera and Andrew Chafin away for good measure. It was no fun being a fan of the team during that time.
That leaves Willson Contreras, Kyle Hendricks and Jason Heyward among others to figure it out and end the season with pride. They also see the likes of Frank Schwindel and Patrick Wisdom having stellar seasons that make them at least watchable.
However, they’ve made some interesting moves this season that have confounded the baseball world. They did things that showed they were rebuilding but also did things that showed they were trying to win. The odds providers at WynnBett have set some odds that are not very recommended.
The odds are not in favor of the Chicago Cubs heading into the 2022 season.
Team Cubs will be in trouble in 2022. They currently have the 24th highest odds of winning in the World series in a 30-team tournament. They tied for the Minnesota Twins at +8000. They are just ahead of the Kansas City Royals, Texas Rangers, Arizona Diamondbacks, Colorado Rockies, Pittsburgh Pirates and Baltimore Orioles on this list.
It’s not ideal that they are predicted (by odds) to be the fourth strongest team in the NL Central Division. Unfortunately, that’s the result of their own bad decisions they’ve made since committing crimes at the World Series in 2016.
Total over/under wins during the season is 72.5. It’s not like they’re being considered a 60-win team but it’s still a horrible look if they don’t even hit 73 wins. They should be able to get through that but it could also depend on how they handle transaction deadlines. If they start trading with pieces like Willson Contreras, all bets will fail on how bad they are.
Meanwhile, the bets are pretty good for the team across town. The Chicago White Sox is in the top 10 for World Series odds and the over/under for wins for the year is 91.1. That team is doing really well right now.
They have played very well in 2021 with some serious injuries to key players so overcoming that should be relatively easy if they remain fit. Things changed in Chicago when the two baseball teams left, and both sides’ decision-making has a lot to do with that.
