Chief Tuchel admitted: “I wasn’t aware of that. Maybe someone told me and I forgot. But let’s turn things around.

“Maybe everyone can push a little bit more because we lack the quantity, but there shouldn’t be a lack of quality of support.

“Hopefully we can be the spark to get everyone in the mood to give a little bit more than normal.”

The misfiring forward, 28, closes the circle in tonight’s home game against arsenal.

Club record signing Lukaku started his second stint with the Blues last August with a goal in a 2-0 win that sparked a blistering run.

But in the second leg, the £97.5million Belgian is struggling for his future – after a string of key errors and no Premier League goals this year.

Boss Tuchel said: “It’s clear to us, we can play with Romelu, we can be very strong with Romelu, we’ve proven it.

“We’ll prove it again if he’s there and stays with it mentally.
“If he stays involved in the situation to get through this, he can grow from it and come back stronger.

“It’s disappointing for him and not what we expected – but it’s still not done and we won’t give up.

“We never give up with any players and we never give up.

“We’re going to push him, we’re going to push as far as we can. And as long as the player has the mentality it takes to move a team forward, he can still be a crucial player.”

Lukaku missed chances against Real Madrid in the Champions League and then against Crystal Palace in Sunday’s FA Cup semi-final win.

His first season in England was also marked by controversy with a television interview in which he claimed to be unhappy at Chelsea.

Tuchel said: “He had a very, very promising start.

“From then on, there was turbulence throughout this long period.

I think he’s still in the right place, but there are things to improve.

Tuchel about Lukaku

“Of course we will try everything and he tries everything – and will have our support to get back to that level. It’s in him. It is in us.

“I think he’s still in the right place but there are things to improve on.”

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is unhappy that his team has to play three games in one week with this rearranged game.

Chelsea have played 54 games in all competitions this season compared to Arsenal’s 38.

Tuchel said: “He must have reasons if he felt that way – but he can’t compare himself to us in minutes either.

“We can use it as an excuse, they can use it. You use the situation as you want.

“You can use it to feel tired and say we feel the challenge mentally and physically.

“And from there it’s second nature to be used as an excuse when things go wrong. Or just accept it – that’s what we’re trying to do.

“I wasn’t happy when Tottenham left the Europa Conference League because I know what Antonio Conte can do with focused teams and he can train them physically.

“The same goes for Arsenal when they left the FA Cup – that would be a huge boost for them because they have a very young and talented team, focusing on one thing can be an advantage.”

Blues midfielder Mateo Kovacic is out with an ankle injury sustained in Sunday’s 2-0 win over Crystal Palace that gave Chelsea their third straight FA Cup final.
