Anne Hegerty, the star of The huntShe was shocked to discover her royal parentage as part of a new DNA analysis series for ITV.
The pursuer, known on the series as ‘The Governess’, was profiled in Monday’s (4 April) episode of ITV DNA journey.
As revealed by the show, Hegerty, 63, is actually the Queen’s 19th cousin.
She was also informed that King Robert the Bruce was her great-grandfather of 20 times.
A visibly stunned Hegerty told the series’ historian that her grandmother had actually told her as much but never believed her.
“Wow,” she said. “That’s cool. But my grandmother was the biggest liar.
“My aunt said she was a romantic and would embroider life a bit, so I always felt like anything from my grandmother should be taken with a grain of salt.”
As the program revealed, one of Hegerty’s distant ancestors married Princess Elizabeth in 1370. “As a kid, I was always curious about these things, and my mom was always very repressive,” Hegerty said.
“I think it was because it’s pretty posh on my mom’s side and my mom thought I was growing up to be a terrible snob.”
The episode is available to stream now on the ITV Hub.
