In court, it was reported that two more people had been charged in connection with the case, bringing the total number of people charged to five.
According to the district attorney’s office, several people came into contact with 51-year-old suspect Oscar Rosales after he allegedly committed a crime and tried to help him.
Rosales was arrested at a hotel just across the US-Mexico border in Ciudad de Acuña, Mexico on Wednesday.
The judge found probable cause for Rosales’ murder charge at 482nd court on Friday. He is being held without bond.
According to the DA office, Rosales has been on the run from a stabbing charge in Harris County since 1995. He may also be charged with a 2008 murder in El Salvador.
The DA’s office is considering the death penalty for murder, but must complete the investigation first, which could take years.
Officials say both the dashcam and bodycam video capture Galloway’s death while stopped in traffic on January 23.
Court officials said Galloway’s official cause of death was a gunshot wound to the left side of his face.
Dashcam video is said to capture Rosales shooting directly at the windshield. Galloway was pronounced dead at the scene at 12:50 a.m.
“I’ve seen a lot of tragedy and a lot of violence in my career,” said Sean Teare of the DA office. “This is right on top of the brutality and callousness that Cpl. Galloway was shot down by.”
At Thursday’s news conference, District Attorney Kim Ogg said Rosales has used multiple identities over the years. When charged in Harris County in 1995, his name was Maurico Aguilar Albarenga.
Officials are still working to determine if Rosales is really his real name and whether he is actually from El Salvador.
Two relatives of Rosales were accused of tampering with evidence in the case. According to court filings, Reina Marquez and Henri Mauricio Pereira-Marquez, who have been identified as Rosales and his brother-in-law’s common wife of 17 years, allegedly tried to cover up the suspect’s involvement in the case.
Now, two other men have been charged with obstruction of fear. Their identities were not released, but officials said they pawned jewelry and other items to cash Rosales in an attempt to get him to flee the United States.
