CRUSTY Uefa sheriffs have taken a baffling action after suing a small ‘Champignons League’ pizza restaurant.
European football’s leaders admit to being ‘overzealous’ and will now let the German pizzeria continue to sell football-themed meals.
‘Champignons League’ means ‘Mushroom Federation’ in German – but Uefa originally translated it as trouble for their image.
They claimed the pizza, topped with mozzarella cheese and mushrooms, infringed their ‘Champions League’ trademark.
It was a real artichoke for Pizza Wolke, the eatery in the town of Giessen, near Frankfurt, who sold them.
Uefa fears allowing Wolke to use a similar name to Europe’s top domestic soccer league could be the thin edge of the pizza.
But after being sautéed for their difficult reasons, Uefa decided to have larger dishes to fry and skip the baking process halfway.
The regulator blamed their initial tough stance on a local employee who followed the guidelines too strictly.
And preface their arrival in good spirits, Uefa’s media team wrote to tell the restaurant: “Clearly some people are creating a meal for this story.
“Uefa clearly takes the protection of its intellectual property very seriously, but this case appears to be the case of an overzealous local trademark agent acting too hastily.

Pizza Wolke updated fans of their epic clash on Instagram.
They posted: “Pizza Wolke vs UEFA € Long live CHAMPI(G) NONS LEAGUE pizza! I feel honored! Being a kid of football! A UEFA ad? Seriously?
“1) shows me and my gang that we are definitely on the right track! My team and I are on the right track and we won’t stop until we are in the belly and toasted in every Oven sometime! A man! A pizza! Let’s see how far UEFA goes! BUY THE WORLD’S HOTTEST PIZZA MUSHROOM everyone!”
As former England manager Graham Taylor certainly said: “Dough, I don’t like that!”
