Chaka Zulu, longtime manager of Ludacris, was arrested for murder

According to police reports, rapper Ludacris’ longtime manager Chaka Zulu has been arrested on multiple charges including murder.

Zulu, 52, real name Ahmed Obafemi, was one of three shot dead in a shopping center car park outside his Buckhead restaurant on June 26.

The shooting killed Artez Benton, 23, and hospitalized another.

Police said the shooting was the result of a fight that broke out between Zulu and others.

Atlanta police Tuesday charged Zulu with murder, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm while committing a felony and aggravated assault.

Zulu turned himself in to authorities on Tuesday and was able to post bail of $200,000 the same day.

It is unclear when Zulu will appear in court.

Zulu’s lawyer, Gabe Banks, said in a statement that Zulu was attacked by four people and was protecting himself after the suspects repeatedly attacked him in a “defenseless posture”.

Artez Benton’s family want answers about the 23-year-old’s death.

“We just want justice for Artez,” Arteria Benton, Artez’s older sister, told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Zulu is known throughout Atlanta for its community involvement.

Back in January, the Atlanta Hawks honored Zulu for his commitment to mentoring and service for young artists in Atlanta.

Zulu founded the independent record label Disturbing Tha Peace Records in 1998 with his brother Jeff Dixon and Christopher “Ludacris” Bridges.

The record label’s goal was to give Atlantan musicians a chance to get their name out there and not have to rely on big record label deals.

Ludacris was the first artist to sign to the label.
