A pleasant comedy became Sundance’s biggest hit after being Apple.
One year after the streaming service was purchased CODA With the festival’s biggest deal, it happened again after buying the distribution rights to a film that was rated as the year’s top grossing film.
The movie is titled Cha Cha is so smooth, written and directed by the film’s main star, Cooper Raiff, 24.
This is Raiff’s second movie after House S**, has been renamed Freshman and released online in the UK in October 2021.
Cha Cha is so smooth follows a college graduate, living in New Jersey, who falls in love with a young mother, due to Dakota Johnson, whom he met at his brother’s schoolmate’s bat camp.
Leslie Mann and Brad Garrett also star in the film as Vanessa Burghardt, who plays Johnson’s autistic daughter, with whom Raiff’s character has a sweet friendship. Impressively, this is Burghardt’s feature film debut.
Apple bought my father Cha Real Smooth At $15 million, $1 million less than it cost CODA, the films look set to receive Best Picture nominations when they’re announced on February 8.
Still, Cha Cha is so smooth made the festival its biggest hit, with $15 million surpassing Searchlight/Hulu’s $7.5 million for Sophie Hyde’s Good luck to you, Leo Grande, which stars Emma Thompson and Daryl McCormack.
Release date for Cha Cha is so smooth, which Johnson also produces, has yet to be announced.
