Central NC under risk of severe weather for Wednesday

RALEIGH, NC (WNCN) – The CBS 17 Storm Team has declared Wednesday a “Day of Alert” due to the increasing threat of severe weather.

As of Monday, the Storm Prediction Center has placed all of central North Carolina at mild risk, or a Level 2 out of 5 risk for severe storms.

That’s elevated for a weather event on day three, meaning there’s growing confidence that we’ll see strong storms.

The main potential threats are damaging winds, large hail and isolated tornadoes Wednesday afternoon and evening here in Central North Carolina.

This is the same storm system bringing severe thunderstorms to the Deep South tonight and Tuesday with the threat of powerful tornadoes, damaging winds and large hail.

Showers will move into our area on Wednesday morning before developing storms in the afternoon and evening.

Thursday starts out rainy before drying out during the evening. Temperatures in the 70s ahead of the cold front will drop into the 60s on Friday and over the weekend to reach highs.
