EDINSON CAVANI is getting closer to a move to Barcelona in the January window, according to reports.
And although he has had some fitness issues, it looks like he will now be third in the back row. Cristiano Ronaldo and Marcus Rashford.
Cavani’s contract at Old Trafford is set to expire in the summer after he signed a one-year extension at the end of last season.
Sergio Aguero is considering retiring from football due to a heart problem, while new manager Xavi is said to not like the look of Luke de Jong.
And Memphis Depay is not considered a stellar number 9, so the Catalan giants are looking for someone of Cavani’s caliber.
Barca are short on cash due to the current financial crisis, but that is unlikely to affect Cavani’s January contract as he has only six months left on his current contract, so Man Utd is almost would definitely let him go for a small fee.
Alternatively, the LaLiga side could wait until the summer before sending him on a free transfer.
The South American star proved his quality in Italy for Palermo and Napoli, in France for Paris Saint-Germain and in England with Man Utd.
So a move to Spain could limit his stellar career as he bids to continue his fine scoring record in another country for a fourth.
Barca clearly has make a shortlist of 10 people for the January window.
Among the long list of names is Jesse Lingard, Cavani’s teammate at Man Utd.
