Captured Ukrainian journalist Victoria Roshchyna was released by the Russians

A Ukrainian photographer was reported missing from the Kyiv area on Tuesday – another Ukrainian journalist was reportedly released by Russian security forces on the same day.

Ukrainian independent news agency UNIAN, based in Kyiv, said photographer Maksym Levin had been missing since March 13 while he was working in Vyshhorod, a northern suburb of the country’s capital.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian newspaper Hromadske said its missing reporter Victoria Roshchyna was freed by Russian authorities on Monday and made it back to Ukrainian-controlled territory.

Hromadske reported losing contact with Roshchyna last week while reporting from Russian-held Berdyansk on the Azov coast.

“On March 16, we learned that Victoria was likely arrested by [Russian authorities]’ said Hromadske. “According to witnesses, whom we cannot name for security reasons, the journalist was in the temporarily occupied Berdyansk at the time.”

After Roshchyna’s release, pro-Russian Telegram channels circulated videos of the reporter claiming she was rescued by Russian security forces while covering the Ukrainian coast.

Hromadske claimed the videos were taken under duress as a condition of Roshchyna’s release.
