KEITH THURMAN says Canelo Alvarez ‘learned from the best’ in Floyd Mayweather on how to choose the right opponent.
And now inherited Mayweather is the top attraction of boxing, Canelo is ‘starting to make money’ like his old rival.
Thurman told Fight Hub: “He’s Canelo, people love him.
“He’s got a huge following. He brings a lot of excitement. You can say he’s a little bit picked but he’s learned from the best.
“He was beaten by Floyd and now he is starting to make money like Floyd.”
Canelo, 31, has only lost to Mayweather, 44, once in 2013.
Since then, the Mexican has been the champion in FOUR weight classes, first undisputed recent super average.
But he was interested in a title in his fifth weight class after being accepted by the WBC to challenge the 34-year-old cruiser class champion Ilunga Makabu.
It means jumping two divisions and fighting TWO STONEs his natural weight.
Thurman, 33, said: “Are there bigger challenges for Canelo Alvarez? Most certainly.
“Are there any fights that I really want to see? Most definitely. Are there super talented individuals who could cause problems for him?
“Does he have to do any of that? Absolutely not.”
Thurman hasn’t fought since losing to Manny Pacquiao, 43, in 2019.
But his comeback fight is against Mario Barrios, 26, on February 5 in Las Vegas.
