Call of Duty: Warzone 2 is now in development and we have an early rundown of everything there is to know. From the targeted release window to launch platform rumors, here are the first details.

war zone 2 is now in the works at Activision. While it’s still early days and details are still sparse, here’s a full rundown of everything we already know about the sequel.

Call of Duty Warzone 2 release window

An exact release date for Warzone 2 has not yet been announced. However, initial reports from Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier outlined a loose release window for the sequel.

Warzone 2 seems to be on the right track for one Market launch 2023, so screamer. This places the new iteration three years after the battle royale was first released.

Modern Warfare graphics

Warzone launched in March 2020 during the Modern Warfare cycle.

A more specific target has yet to be announced, although Activision has confirmed that Warzone 2 will “come with Modern Warfare 2”.

However, there’s no telling if that means the BR sequel will launch on day one or further into the next CoD cycle.

Call of Duty Warzone 2 platforms

No exact details have been confirmed on the Warzone 2 launch platforms. While the current battle royale title is supported on both old and new generation hardware, the next iteration could change that.

Warzone 2 may be in development for PS5, Xbox Series X | According to industry insiders only S and PC Tom Henderson. “A whole new game for the better hardware,” he described.

Warzone hit registration issues

Warzone’s new era could leave old hardware behind.

That means players on PS4 and Xbox One would have to make the leap to the latest hardware by 2023.

Graphic upgrades are a safe bet if that’s the case, but performance could also be improved for console gamers with features like this highly requested FOV slider.

Call of Duty Warzone 2 gameplay details

As an all-new iteration, as opposed to Warzone’s regular updates, major gameplay changes are expected to be on the way. However, it is still unclear what exactly this could look like.

While no official details have been confirmed, Henderson has implied a major departure from the current state of Warzone.

M1912 Warzone class

We could see a more polished experience in a less buggy version of Warzone.

There will be “no previous weapons integrations,” he said reported on January 26th.

This suggests all Modern Warfare 2019, Black Ops Cold War, CoD Vanguard and to come Modern Warfare 2: 2022 Weapons are left behind.

What’s more, we know for sure that Warzone 2 will be “built from the ground up” with an entirely new engine. With a new “play area and a new sandbox mode,” technological innovations are expected across the board.

On January 27, Henderson went live on his YouTube page, which we embedded above. He was joined by another credible leaker MW2 Ghost, and the pair revealed that Warzone 2 may not be in development right now.

Henderson said he spoke to Infinity Ward developers after hearing the news about a new BR and apparently they were unaware of it. “None of these [Infinity Ward] Developers I spoke to also heard about Warzone 2 until this report came out.”

The duo went on to speculate that this could mean Warzone 2 isn’t currently in development, but will be sometime soon. MW2 Ghost said: “If the developers don’t know about it [Warzone 2]how far along in development can they actually be then?” These are all rumors from Henderson and Ghost and we will update you as more information becomes available.

What maps will there be in Warzone 2?

There is currently no indication of what maps will be included in Warzone 2 at launch. We could see a mix of the classics or something entirely new.

So far, Warzone has only seen three maps in its two years on the market. Verdansk, Rebirth Island, and Caldera were all accessible at different times.

Warzone 2 could launch with another brand new battle royale map.

Across the board, 2022 is expected to mark the arrival of a Modern Warfare 2 era map with the next integration. Maybe this location will be taken over into Warzone 2 in 2023, but it’s not certain.

Recent comments from developers have also hinted that Verdansk may be making some sort of comeback in the near future. Targeting “specific platforms”, Activision’s Alex Summers confirmed the message during a live stream on April 17th.

Although there’s obviously no telling if this will mean a return from Verdansk to the regular Warzone. As far as we know, this could indicate the imminent return of Verdansk Warzone mobile release.

There’s a chance that a whole new iteration of Warzone will come with its own full map, built from the ground up for the new title. We’ll just have to wait and see.
