California woman sews thousands of teddy bears for young victims of crime

FRESNO, California – A California woman sews thousands of teddy bears for young crime victims.

For the past 8 years, Levota Misner has donated stuffed animals to the Fresno Police Department.

Officers put her bears on their patrol cars and use them to comfort small children they may have to talk to.

“She specifically created them for victims of domestic violence or witnesses of any of these particular crimes. Just to give them something to hang on to, something to say. conversation, something to be able to listen to them while they’re being interviewed by detectives or while they’re working through the process,” said Lieutenant Bill Dooley from the division.

Ms. Misner’s love for traumatized children arose from her own childhood experiences.

“If a police officer can give them a bear, it will help them settle down. It gives them something to love and hold. Because I come from a family of alcoholics. , I know what it’s like to live in that environment.” Ms. Misner said.

Her story caught the attention of the community and donations started pouring in.

Even JOANN Fabrics joined the movement, giving her boxes of fabric and sewing supplies.
