Bun B and rap kings make history in RodeoHouston’s “H-town Takeover” at NRG Park

HOUSTON, Texas — Surveying his empire — in this case NRG Stadium — Houston’s king of hip-hop, Bun B, was all in business. Walking through the dirt of the arena and the sprawling, star-shaped RodeoHouston stage, the unofficial mayor of H-Town patiently rattled off orders, sounding like both an executive producer and a legendary rapper.
“I can’t wait for Houston to see this show,” Bun told CultureMap as he finalized preparations shortly before his historic takeover of H-Town on Friday, March 11. “I’m ready to go to work.”

And why not? As the first black Houston male headliner in RodeoHouston history, Bun B, the pride of Port Arthur, Texas and seminal rap icon who made his name with seminal duo UGK and decades-long releases, never shied away from the work.
