Bryce Dallas Howard has opened up about how she was pressured to lose weight for her role in this year’s Jurassic World: Dominion.
The 41-year-old opened up about what her studio execs said just before filming began on the third film in the Jurassic World franchise.
“What allowed it to be in this third film — how do I say that, how do I say that, how do I say that…[I’ve] was asked not to use my natural body in the cinema,” Howard said in a recent Metro UK profile.
The ‘Spider-Man 3’ actress opened up about director Colin Trevorrow’s commitment to her.
She continued, “Actually, with the third film, it was because there were so many women cast that Colin was very important to protect me… Because the conversation came up again, ‘We have to ask Bryce to lose weight.’ ”
She then noted how the filmmaker defended her and hit back at the criticism. “[Trevorrow] was like, ‘There are many different types of women on this planet and there are many different types of women in our film.’”
The mother-of-two pointed out that if she had been on a diet, she wouldn’t have been able to do some stunts.
Howard continued, “I’m really excited [at] all the action I have to do and I have to do it with my body. She was at her maximum strength and I hope that’s just another indication of what’s possible.”
Howard previously revealed that she was paid “so much less” than her co-star Chris Pratt for the Jurassic World trilogy.
She told Insiders last month how upset they were about the pay gap between her and Pratt, 43.
In 2018, Variety reported that Howard made $2 million less than Pratt on “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom” — $8 million to his $10 million.
“The reports were so interesting because I was paid so much less than the reports even said, so much less,” Howard explained.
She emphasized, “When I first started negotiating for ‘Jurassic’ it was 2014 and it was a different world and I was at a huge disadvantage. And unfortunately you have to sign up for three films and so the deals are set.”
Though she didn’t specify exactly what the pay gap was, she explained that she raised the issue with Pratt.
The Guardians of the Galaxy star then helped get equal pay for other franchise assets like video games and theme park rides.
