Scout, the daughter of Bruce Willis, has thanked fans for reacting with “endearment” to the announcement that her father is “retiring” from acting.
On Wednesday (March 30), the Willis family announced that the Die Hard Star had “some health issues” that “impaired his cognitive abilities.”
They explained that he had been diagnosed with aphasia, a form of brain damage that affects the expression and understanding of language. It leaves sufferers unable to communicate effectively and is often the result of a stroke.
“As a result, and with much deliberation, Bruce is stepping down from the career that has meant so much to him,” they wrote.
“This is a truly challenging time for our family and we are so grateful for your continued love, compassion and support. We’re moving through this as a strong family unit and wanted to include his fans because we know how much he means to you, just as you mean to him.
“Like Bruce always says, ‘Live it up,’ and together we plan to do just that.”
The statement is signed by Bruce’s wife Emma, his ex-partner Demi Moore and all of his children.
After the statement was released, the family received a surge of love from friends and fans.
Actress Scout, 30, wrote on her Instagram Stories: “I’m just blown away by the exquisite outpouring of love I’m experiencing right now.
“Thank you all for showing up with such tenderness and breathtaking love for my dad and all my family!”
She also posted a series of photos with Willis, which she hashtagged “#VivaBruce.”
