The Foreign Office asked British nationals to leave the country “while commercial means are still available”.

And the Prime Minister issued the chilling warning while on the phone with allies, including the US, Italy, France and Germany.

The European Council, the European Commission and NATO leaders also listened after changing advice on travel into Ukraine.

This stark travel warning comes after weeks of rising tensions in the country as Vladimir Putin’s military and tank buildup continues to threaten Ukraine.
