Adele will have to wait almost a year for a 2023 Grammy nomination, which includes her long-awaited fourth album, 30, is expected to be a major force.

This year marks the first time the Brits have combined separate male and female categories in both artist of the year and international artist. So how did it shake out? Female takes up two of the five spots for artist of the year (Adele and Little Simz), but four out of five places for international artist (Billie Eilish, Cat Doja, Olivia Rodrigo and Taylor Swift). Eilish has won the Brit Award as an international female artist in the last two years. Swift won the global icon award last year.

Griff was nominated for best new artist, a year after accepting the British rising star award. Holly Humberstone was announced as this year’s rising star award winner.

As the US music industry adjusts to the Grammy Awards expanding from eight to 10 nominations in each of the Big Four categories – album, record and song of the year along with best new artist – the British have (gulp) 15 nominations each in two categories – Mastercard song of the year and international song of the year.

Several of this year’s Brit nominees were also nominated for a Grammy. “Happier than ever” by Eilish, performed by Doja Cat SZAof “Kiss Me More” and Lil Nas X“Montero (Call Me By Your Name)”, all of which has been nominated for a Grammy for both record and song of the year, is in competition for International Song of the Year in the UK. “Good 4 U.” So is Rodrigo’s. Rodrigo hit the record and song of the year at the Grammys, but with another hit, “Driver’s License”.

The British are coming special performances by Anne-Marie, Glass Animals, Mimi Webb and Joel Corry & Gracey. Special event organized by Clara Amfo and Maya Jama.

British comedian Mo Gilligan is set to host the Brit Awards presented by the British Phonograph Industry (BPI).
