Brimstone’s mega buff boosts Valorant controller popularity, Astra fights

Brimstone’s rework in Episode 4 as part of Riot Games tinkering with the controllers has resulted in a drastic increase in win and play rates. Players have flocked to the American Agent in similar, albeit smaller numbers while leaving Astra.

Controller agents got a long overdue love from Riot Games in Valorant patch 4.04.

The seemingly forgotten Omen and Brimstone have sat on the back burner since the earliest balance tweaks left them both at the bottom of the pick stack.

But now that these changes are being applied, we’re seeing the impact this is having on the Valorant meta.

Since Riot reduces the deployment time of Brim’s smoke while increasing its altitude and significantly increasing stim beacon effects, the idea was to use the agent faster and more effectively in tight situations.

It was only a matter of time for curious players to test the waters, and we’ve seen Brimstone’s playrate make a solid jump 23% of this patchwith a 50.9% win rate – away 17.7% and 48.9% in the patch before.

The rest of the game’s controllers also saw a slight dip: Omen (26.8%) and Viper (29.1%) still top it in play rate, but their win rates are both under 50%.

Early reactions from players are positive, with Brimstone Mains telling the agents: “finally feels like a full character with the voice changes.

Whether we can expect the leader of the Valorant pack to claim his time in the sun as a serious contender for pro-level pick remains to be seen.

Brimstone is now statistically the best controller in Valorant.

It’s important to keep in mind that if Brimstone’s playrate stays in its path, Riot could be forced to nerf the American Agent with patch 4.05.

The other major change from this patch so far has seen Astra nerfs result in players dropping the new agent in significant numbers. The agent has gone from a 13.1% play rate to being a pick in just 9.5% of games.

While Astra remains the most popular controller in pro gamingthat could all change once competitive play transitions to patch 4.04 update next week. Brimstone’s mega buff boosts Valorant controller popularity, Astra fights
