Brendan O’Carroll accused of ‘blatant racism’ Tyler Perry joke on The One Show

Mrs Brown’s Boys creator Brendan O’Carroll was criticized for joking about Tyler Perry“color” when appearing on The One Show.

Irish actor who had a cameo in A Madea Homecoming, Perry’s latest Netflix series. As Madea, Perry – as O’Carroll as Mrs. Brown – plays an elderly woman.

The couple appeared on The One Show on Tuesday (February 22), when host Lauren Laverne asked O’Carroll if he would return the favor and give Perry a cameo Mrs Brown’s Boys.

“I don’t know if we can afford him, he’s very expensive,” said O’Carroll, and Perry said, “Answer that, I’d love to hear it.”

“He’s very expensive and so far we haven’t had anyone with his color in them,” the Irish actor continued, pointing to his face the word “color”.

O’Carroll said he’d love for the actor to appear on the show or have the pair make another movie together, while Perry laughs at that comment while repeating, “Nobody is my color.”

“Times have changed, the world has changed,” Perry added, as O’Carroll continued to point to his face and speak. “Rule of diversity, here we go.”

The One Show Viewers were shocked by O’Carroll’s comment, which was described by one viewer as “most offensive”.

“What did I just hear from Brendan O’Carroll?” one onlooker questioned suspiciously, while another repeated: “Did Brendan O’Carroll just say that?”

“Excuse me!?” one commenter tweeted. Did I just… did I just hear what I thought I heard on #TheOneShow from Brendan O’Carroll or did I misunderstand or was it blatant racism on the show @BBCOne #wtf on gold time.”

“Anything with Brendan Carroll/Mrs Brown involved is absolutely unacceptable to me. And I can’t believe what he just said about Tyler Perry being on his show. What a lack of understanding,” one commenter tweeted.

Another tweet read: “You definitely heard Brendan right on #TheOneShow what is that really?”

“Really don’t understand how #MrsBrownsBoys is even a thing,” one reader tweeted. “Interviewed on #TheOneShow and joked about ‘one of his colored people’. Best BBC Attack! ”
