Boynton Beach Police Department releases video showing strangers banding together to prevent vehicle from drifting into Florida intersection

BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. – Several Good Samaritans in Florida jumped into action to help a driver who was suffering from a medical emergency.

It happened on May 5 when a vehicle began drifting into a busy intersection in Boynton Beach.

Video released by police on Wednesday showed a motorist getting out of her car and chasing after the moving vehicle.

The motorist turned out to be the driver’s colleague. She saw the driver slump behind the wheel.

“As her car slowly entered the Congress Avenue intersection, her co-worker ran across the street waving her arms to attract the attention of other motorists,” the Boynton Beach Police Department said.

Then a group of strangers jumped into action and joined her. Driver after driver jumped out of their vehicles to stop the car.

Police say a woman got a dumbbell from her car and a man used it to break into the moving vehicle to reach the driver.

“Another man then climbed through the window to unlock the passenger door,” police said. “The car was then parked and wheeled by the Good Samaritans to a nearby 7-Eleven parking lot where a nurse, who was on the phone to 911, provided medical care until firefighters arrived.”

Officers later learned that the driver became dizzy and tried to stop, but began convulsing before hitting a curb.

She didn’t wake up until the next day.

The Boynton Beach Police Department tweeted the video, asking for help to identify and honor the Good Samaritans who got the driver to safety.

Just five hours after that initial tweet, the department said: “UPDATE: They’re all working fast! We have been put in touch with several of the Good Samaritans (and we) are coordinating everyone’s schedules to match them with the woman they rescued. We will let you know as soon as it is confirmed. Thanks very much.”

Police then shared a different angle of the heroic act on Thursday, adding that the reunion will take place on Friday.
