BOXING broadcaster David Diamante was seriously injured in a horror motorcycle crash.
The 50-year-old has broken three spines and is ‘learning to walk’ after being involved in a crash on 3rd Avenue in Brooklyn.
In addition to his back injury, Diamante also broke several ribs and damaged his right knee.
He was immediately taken to NYU Langone Health for emergency treatment.
Diamante underwent five hours of surgery after being hospitalized, with nine screws, multiple rods and cadaver parts inserted into his spine.
Despite the nature of the trauma, Diamante remained in a ‘positive’ state of mind.
I said BoxingScene:”” It’s going to be a tough road.
“It’s a serious injury and recovery will take some time. It’s going to be a struggle.
“I will have to learn how to walk again, and right now there is a risk of complications.
“But I have a positive attitude and will be back as soon as possible.”
Diamante’s catchphrase is ‘the war begins now’.
He is also popular with basketball fans in the US, serving as a broadcaster for the Brooklyn Nets for six seasons.
The dreadlocked star announced the 2016 All-Star game.
Diamante has appeared in a number of feature films, including Southpaw, starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Forest Whitaker, Naomie Harris, 50 Cent, and Rachel McAdams.
