Boris Johnson is contacted by police over partying scandal, as Met probes chain of lockdown breach claims

BORIS Johnson has now received a letter from the police about the partygate scandal, it comes out tonight.

The Chancellor was among 50 Downing Street insiders who received a questionnaire from the Met asking for details on the alleged lock-breaking facilities.

No10 says Boris will “reply to request” to the Met letter.

The Prime Minister has strongly denied breaking any rules at the meetings and is understood to be taking legal advice to offer a solid defense.

But many Tory MPs have privately warned that he would be forced to resign in disgrace if found to have violated embargo laws.

Should the police issue a fine for Mr Johnson, a confidence vote that could see him ousted from No 10 is expected within days.

In a statement released last night, a No10 spokesman said: “We can confirm that the Prime Minister has received a questionnaire from the Metropolitan Police.

“He will respond upon request.”

Police are investigating 12 alleged lockout parties in Whitehall.
Mr Johnson is said to have been at six of the parties.

This includes the infamous “bring your own booze” game thrown in the Downing Street garden in May 2020 – the height of the first lockdown.

A surprise birthday party organized by Carrie Johnson for her husband in June 2020, when the Prime Minister is said to have been “ambushed by the cake”, is also under investigation.

No10 said it would notify the public if Mr Johnson was fined by police, starting at £100 but increasing if there are multiple violations.

Mr Johnson has refused publicly whether he would resign as Prime Minister if he was found to have broken the law.

PM .’s QUIZ

His allies have insisted he will stay and resist any attempt to knock him out of No10.

But many Tory MPs were furious with him because of the deeply damaging partisan scandal.

If he is found to have broken the law, a tsunami of letters requesting a vote of no confidence will be sent – and he could be kicked out of No10 in the next few days.

Former Tory Prime Ministers Sir John Major and Theresa May have both brought knives to Bojo, accusing him of breaking laws he has laid out.
