JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. (KDVR) – A bomb squad with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office was deployed to investigate a suspicious package at a tunnel at C-470 and Belleview on Christmas Day.
Just before 11 a.m., a witness saw a vehicle arrive underneath the C-470 overpass on Belleview Road, drop off a package, and leave. The person who dropped the package then turned the vehicle around and quickly left the area.
The witness reported it to officers, and bomb technicians later determined that the package contained nothing.
“If you see something, you say something and we encourage people that if they find the activity worthwhile,” said Jenny Fulton, a public information officer with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office. If they don’t expect it, they’ll call them.”
Delegates and the Colorado State Patrol closed C-470 between Quincy and Bowles as a precaution.
The freeway has reopened, but Belleview remains closed at C-470.
This is an evolving story. Details will be reported upon receipt.
