BLM’s Hawk Newsome blames Mayor Eric Adams for NYC’s ‘war zone’

A Black Lives Matter leader who last year threatened “rioting,” “fire,” and “bloodshed” if Mayor Eric Adams cracked down on crime turned back Thursday and accused him of turning New York City into a ” Warzone” – while also consuming racist slurs against the Big Apple’s second black leader.

During an appearance on Fox News, Hawk accused Newsome Adams of failing to protect black New Yorkers from rising gun violence and slammed the former NYPD captain’s recent appearance with the mother of slain 12-year-old Kade Lewin, who was fatally shot, as he sat in a parked minivan in Brooklyn.

“Don’t listen to what Eric Adams says, he makes a great press statement. He’s the master of the press conference,” Newsome said.

“A child dies, he hugs his mother. He’s holding up sneakers, he’s crying. But what we chose him for – the city of New York – was to protect the city. This city is a war zone and he can’t stop it.”

Newsome, a New York-area Black Lives Matter co-founder, also used a racist slur on Adams, calling him a “white man with a black face and a very conservative-minded white man at that.”

Last year, Newsome sparked outrage when he emerged from a meeting with Adams, then-mayor-elect, and attacked his plan to create a new version of the NYPD’s undercover crime-fighting unit to combat illegal gun ownership.

“If they think they’re going back to the old ways of policing, we’ll get back on the streets,” Newsome said at the time.

“There will be riots. There will be fire and there will be bloodshed.”

Adams responded by calling Newsome’s threat “stupid” and vowing, “This city will not become a city of riots, it will not become a city of burns.”

“This will be a city where we will be safe,” he added.

Official NYPD statistics show the number of shootings this year through Sunday is up 9.9 percent compared to the same period last year.

The death toll rose 15.9 percent, due in part to last week’s mass shooting in a Brooklyn subway car.

On Thursday, Newsome also criticized Adams for calling for the silence of BLM and anti-cop activists following a series of city-wide shootings that killed three people and wounded at least 13 others between late April and early April .

“So he turns to BLM with all his might and says, ‘What are you going to do?'” Newsome said.

“Well, I’ll tell you what we’re going to do. We will organize people in our churches to go out and preach a message of love and union in the streets. We will take control of our cities because the government has failed us for decades.”

He added: “Even when crime is low, we’re still dying. And we have to solve this problem ourselves because we believe that poverty is the mother of crime.”

In a prepared statement, Mayor’s spokesman Fabien Levy said Adams is “focused on ending gun violence across the city and will not respond to personal attacks designed simply to divide us.”

“Mayor Adams has made it clear that he believes Black Lives Matter is, but as he said, he hopes more New Yorkers will stand up and show their outrage when innocent black and brown people, many of whom are children, are victims Gun violence,” he said.
