Black Racer Snake recovering after getting caught in a net on Sanibel

LEE COUNTY, Fla. – A black Racer snake was admitted to the Wildlife Rehabilitation Clinic (CROW) after it was found in a net on Sanibel.

Officials said a homeowner rescued the snake and took it to CROW for treatment.

Staff at the wildlife hospital said they had freed the snake from the net and found multiple wounds in five different areas of the adult snake’s body. There is also general swelling and deeper wounds around the mid-body.

Veterinarians said the snake was given painkillers and supportive care in CROW’s temperature-controlled rehabilitation room. They will examine the snake’s wound and consider releasing it.

The Wildlife Hospital says if you use woven netting in your garden or for landscaping purposes, check it daily for any critters that may be trapped.
