Much has been said about friendship Machine gun Kelly and Travis Barker. The musical collaborators have been close for some time and share many interests beyond making music. One of them is tattoos, which should be pretty obvious just by looking at the two. While many of their ink stories could be entertaining, there was one occasion when the two made a huge mistake with what they put on their skin.
MGK and Barker have been best friends for years
Unlike many celebrity Friendships, MGK and Barker’s love for each other seem extremely real. The two have been friends since 2011 and became so close that some people started dating believe they were brothers. In 2020, the two officially collaborated on the album Tickets for Mein Untergang, marking the transition from MGK to pop-punk and rock. It received critical acclaim, both were pleased with the end result, spurring them on to continue with their latest album.

While they may not be related by blood, the two artists are known to share ink in the form of matching tattoos. In memory Mainstream Clearance, they decided to head out to have the album’s name printed on their forearms. Considering the two met outside of a tattoo parlor all those years ago, it seemed like the perfect way to celebrate.
There was only one problem: the name of the album. While it could be called Mainstream Clearance That wasn’t always the plan today. In fact, the change came so late in production that the duo had already inked Born with Horns.
Both title options were the names of tracks on the album, with “Born with Horns” being first in order. However, as he told Ellen, that spontaneous decision backfired a few months later. “It’s definitely not the name of the album anymore,” he stated.
He went on to say how reluctant he was to tell Barker about the move. He described himself as “on the edge of my seat, all stiff,” as he tried to time the message to break it. Eventually he plucked up the courage and recorded the reaction for posterity.
Not surprisingly, this didn’t put a damper on their relationship. Before he even has a chance to say it, Barker suspects that the album’s title has been changed. They both burst out laughing, which admittedly was a pretty funny mix-up.
Ellen asked if they would try again and get the new title as tattoos, but MGK was a little more hesitant. Though he didn’t rule it out, he decided to at least wait until release day this time.
The album in question was met with mixed reviews

To make matters worse, the reviews and fan reviews of the new album weren’t all that great. In what has to sting more than any tattoo, most have heard that Mainstream Clearance don’t seem too impressed. At the time of this writing, the critics and audiences metacritical The scores for the album are 55/100 and 5.5/10, respectively. In other words, almost 100% average, and that’s without taking into account the Cover Art Controversy.
Pitchfork described it as “a concept album about rock,” which seems to be an important thread for most reviews. Clash Music sums it up by saying that MGK is more interested in commenting on its mainstream fame than saying anything authentic.
Warm reception or not, MGK stands by its new songs. They are to be presented during his Mainstream sell-out tourso maybe hearing the tracks live might influence opinions.
