Betty Gilpin was accidentally left in a body bag at Law & Order

Betty Gilpin has described an unfortunate moment in her early acting career when she was left in a body bag on the set of law & order.

On Thursday (April 21) the actor performed The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon to promote their new series gas lit — a political thriller starring Julia Roberts and Sean Penn about the Watergate scandal of the 1970s — when the host asked about her early years in the entertainment industry.

“Like the first few years of my career, it was just theater and law & order,‘ Gilpin said.

“I was a corpse criminal intent and then in the same year I was a living person,” she explained of her numerous appearances on the show.

“I was found naked in an oil drum – Vincent D’Onofrio found my naked dead body,” she recalled of her first appearance on the series. “I remember they closed the body bag.”

“I just had to be in there somehow,” she continued. “They yelled Cut, like, ‘This is lunch guys! Beautiful day!’ I hear footsteps on gravel moving further and further away, van doors close.

“Ten seconds pass, I hear a distant PA saying, ‘Oh my god,’ and footsteps coming towards me, unzipping, sunlight on my face,” she added, laughing.

gas lit is scheduled to premiere April 24 on Starz.
