IT was the most dramatic Manchester derby of all time.
but Ben Foster I can only remember one “b****cking” that prompted the end of his five-year tenure at Old Trafford.
Michael Owen had just scored United’s goal Added-time winner in the 4-3 classic in September 2009 and the dressing room bounced – until goalkeeper Foster was brought down to earth very quickly.
boss Sir Alex Ferguson was furious at how Foster stumbled for the visitors’ first goal as he headed for a ball which Carlos Tevez eventually won to set up Gareth Barry to score.
Then just before the end he was subdued by Craig Bellamy at his near post as City equalized to 3-3.
Owen got United out of prison, but Foster was firmly in the dock and was soon to be sent to Birmingham City.
Foster, now back in the Premier League with Watfordsaid: “I remember coming in full-time and Ferguson nailed me.
“We had just won the game, so everyone was excited. He silenced everyone to pin me down. He said, ‘You’re never going to do that shit again and that’s it, damn it.’

“Luckily he kept me on the team and I still had a couple of decent games – but then I dropped another Klanger.
“We were at home in Sunderland, Kenwyne Jones bullied me on the ball and hit me with a header. Luckily Patrice Evra equalized at the last minute so I was buzzing again.
“But no, Fergie walked in on me full-time for two or three minutes, ‘You’re done. You are outside. You’re in reserve now, that’s it.’
“Scholesy was the only person who said, ‘Don’t worry, he does it to everyone’.
“I wasn’t ready for Man Utd at the time. It was in the wrong place at the wrong time. I just couldn’t handle it. Nobody could drop their standards – ever. That’s what made them want to be the best.”
Foster was made aware of those high standards with a blast from midfield shortly after his arrival in 2005 He didn’t forget hardman Roy Keane.
Speak with This Peter Crouch podcast, Foster said, “I was s*** scared of him. Apparently I rolled the ball to him too slowly.
“He stopped the ball, begged me, then turned around and played on.
“I was so glad he signed for Celtic a few weeks later.”
