On Sunday, at about 7 p.m., a gunman opened fire on a crowd gathered in a field near the North Market Loop in Baytown. Disha Allen was shot dead and at least 13 others were injured.
Allen’s mother, Leanna Goudeau, said her daughter was a single mother who worked in security and left behind a daughter.
“I feel it’s not fair that she leaves behind her daughter, who will turn 5 next week and will never see her mother again,” Goudeau said.
The ceremony Allen attended was for Jamal Narcisse, a 29-year-old man who was murdered the previous December. Narcisse’s mother held a vigil outside her food truck, “Yvonne’s Famous Kitchen.”
While the crowd released balloons into the air, a suspect drove his car and shot at the crowd, delegates said. Goudeau said she last spoke to her daughter a few hours earlier.
“She said, ‘I’ll see you in the morning,'” Goudeau recalls.
Allen was supposed to come pick up her daughter, who has special needs. Goudeau helps take care of her grandmother and is currently grappling with how her granddaughter will handle the loss.
“She has a lot on her plate and my niece is special needs,” says Goudeau. “She’s a responsible single mother who tries as hard as she can.”
The family is begging anyone with any information to contact them to help get justice for Allen and her daughter.
“My heart goes out to all involved and those who had to go home, but (Allen) didn’t get that chance. So please help us get her justice,”‘s aunt said. Allen, said Annie Goudeau.
ONE GoFundMe was set up to help with Allen’s funeral costs.
The suspect(s) are believed to have been driving a small dark sedan. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Harris County Sherriff’s Office at 713-274-9100 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS for a possible reward of up to 5,000 dollars.
