Barack Obama will star in a five-part Netflix documentary series about national parks in the United States and abroad.
The 44th President will also narrate the series entitled Our Great National Parks, which will be available to stream starting April 13.
When the project was originally announced last year, it was expected that Obama’s role would be exclusively that of executive producer. But now the ex-president also appears in front of the camera, by appointmentwho first reported the news.
Obama’s documentary will focus on national parks in California, Kenya, Indonesia and Chile, among others.
The series coincides with a conservation fundraiser involving the Wildlife Conservation Society and Count Us.
“A fish that can walk. Surfing hippos wanting to catch the waves. Species found nowhere else on earth,” Obama says in the Our Great National Parks trailer.
“When mankind began protecting these wild places, we didn’t realize how important they would become: a sanctuary for endangered species and a hotbed for scientific research.”
Barack and Michelle Obama’s years of collaboration with Netflix include the Oscar-winning film “American Factory,” a documentary about a Chinese-owned manufacturing facility in Ohio.
The film was acquired by the Obamas’ production company, Higher Ground Productions.
Higher Ground has also produced children’s shows like Ada Twist, Scientist and Waffles + Mochi, all of which streamed on Netflix.
Michelle Obama also starred in a Netflix documentary based on her memoir, Becoming.
