Argentine rider William Pereyra was caught on camera whipping his horse twice on the head after a race.

The jockey, who was a Champion Apprentice in Argentina in 2017 and has ridden hundreds of winners, has been banned for just FOUR days for the shameful act.

This punishment was considered far from sufficient by most racing fans.

Some even called for the 27-year-old to be banned for life.

The horrifying incident happened on April 15, just moments after Pereyra had finished fourth in a five-mile sprint Soy respectable.

Pererya seemed to have trouble controlling the horse in the closing stages at the San Isidro track in Buenos Aires.

And after the line, he completely lost his temper and hit the five-year-old twice on the head.

But the stewards showed him such shocking leniency that he was able to ride again just four days later.

One outraged fan said: “That should be a lifetime ban.”

Another said: “I’m pretty sure he wouldn’t be allowed to drive again if he did that in this country.

“Sorry. The rules in Argentina seem very lenient.”

Another tweeted: “Wow… unbelievable… unacceptable…

“The owners and trainers of this horse should have a voice and demand a greater sanction given the seriousness of what has been done.”

While one simply said, “Scumbag.”

While Pererya’s actions have been condemned, the length of his ban is exactly the same as that imposed in 2017 Davy Russell after being filmed hitting a horse in the back of your mind.

Russell’s actions sparked outrage – but Irish race bosses felt a four-day suspension was a harsh punishment.
