Back to Monkey Island Writer’s Cut differences and changes

Return to Monkey Island features a Writer’s Cut option that players can enable to see more content. However, the description – more chatter, worse pace – doesn’t do a good job of telling you what the in-game option changes. Fortunately, we’ve got a good grasp of some of the general differences between the regular game and Writer’s Cut.

What changes in the Return to Monkey Island Writer’s Cut?

From what we’ve seen from the Return to Monkey Island Writer’s Cut, he adds some multiple-choice dialogue that was left out for pacing reasons. Fans of the series won’t want to miss this as it contains many inside jokes and references to previous games.

There are some major changes in the Writer’s Cut, though. Some characters will be omitted entirely in the final version. For example, in the Mêlée Island Low Streets, the trio of fallen pirate leaders appear next to the map shop in the Writer’s Cut, but are absent when the option is disabled.

It would take quite an effort to document all the additional content that is added with the Writer’s Cut as it really touches on every aspect of the game. It’s confusing that it doesn’t get more emphasis given how much there is behind it.
