WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) – Aspirus Health officials are once again encouraging people to get vaccinated against COVID-19 as another surge of patients strains the health care system.

“We didn’t have to turn away patients; however patients are waiting,” said Jeff Wicklander, President of Aspirus SVP & Aspirus Wausau Hospitals. “Overall, our capacity is more than 95%. When we reviewed our critical care, we were close to capacity, if not several days of the week. “

Wicklander says the message remains the same as it has been for the past few months – take pictures again, don’t surround strangers in public and wear a face covering when appropriate. The majority of COVID-19 patients being cared for by Aspirus have not been vaccinated.

He adds that you shouldn’t hesitate to schedule another test or procedure or emergency care, but be prepared to wait a little longer to receive those. “There are delays. We are seeing a significant amount of patients in those areas. Be confident that you will be seen and we will address your needs. ”
