The street in Earlsdon, West Mids, was first surrounded by police around 2:22 a.m.

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: “We conducted a careful and safety check of a man and a child at an address on Earlsdon Avenue North, Coventry, shortly before 12.20am this morning (9.20am. /first).

“A man inside the property is refusing to come out. Specialist resources have been called in and officers remain at the scene this afternoon.

“The road is blocked off while officers deal with the situation.”
