Are Kiryu and Majima in Like a Dragon: Ishin?

The unveiling of Like a dragon: Ishin was confusing for some viewers because it seemed to show characters like Kiryu and Majima in feudal Japan. Since the game’s setting is more than 100 years before they were both born, it seems impossible for them to be there, right?

How are Kiryu and Majima in Like a Dragon: Ishin?

Kiryu and Majima are not in Like a Dragon: Ishin. Nor does it play their ancestors. However, it does show their similarities and those of many of the main characters throughout the Yakuza series. Ishin is based on a true story, and each of these familiar faces plays a historically inspired role.

The game is set in the 1860s and you play as Sakamoto Ryoma, a low-level samurai. Though he had relatively humble beginnings, he rose to prominence as an activist against the Tokugawa shogunate. His actions contributed to the Meiji Restoration, which marked a major turning point in Japanese history, leading to the founding of the Empire of Japan and eventually World War II.

Ryu ga Gotoku Studios’ approach to this story is interesting, and fans of the Yakuza series will enjoy seeing well-known characters acting in both familiar and unfamiliar ways. There isn’t a long wait either. Like a Dragon: Ishin will be released worldwide on February 21, 2023. Are Kiryu and Majima in Like a Dragon: Ishin?
