Apex Legends players have urged Respawn to focus on revamping Legends in the coming seasons rather than releasing new characters.
Season 13 of Apex Legends is about to release and Newcastle will be the new face arriving in the Outlands on May 10th.
Though the excitement for Saviors is at an all-time high, some members of the community are urging Respawn to shift their focus in the major updates to come.
Rather than adding new characters each season, players have suggested that the developers take the time to revise certain Legends that are underused or obsolete.
Since Mirage, Lifeline, Revenant, and Gibraltar are all frequently mentioned by players as much-needed changes, this would give Respawn an opportunity to address their issues.
Apex Legends players want reworks for new characters
During a developer Q&A ahead of the Season 13 update, Dexerto asked lead character designer Devan McGuire if there might be a point where Apex has too many characters and if Legend’s releases might slow down in the future?
In response, he revealed that while there are currently no plans to change the Legend release pattern, they don’t want to “saturate” the pool and may consider doing so in the future.
This sparked a discussion on Twitter and Reddit between many players who liked the idea and suggested that Respawn should take the time to revamp characters rather than release new Legends.
“We don’t need new Legends, we need some of the older Legends to be reworked into usable ones…no more tiny changes that don’t change anything, give them useful passives and abilities.”
We don’t need new legends, we need some of the older legends that need to be reworked into usable ones. No more 10 second cooldown adjustments, reduced time to detonation (e.g. bang), no more tiny changes that don’t change anything. Give them meaningful passives and abilities.

Apex Legends YouTuber Thordan Smash even mentioned the idea of an “Operation Health” update solely focused on improving bugs and gameplay, a proposal previously rejected by developers in the past.
This would give Respawn the ability to tackle multiple character revamps in a single season, but it would likely mean significantly less new content compared to a standard update.
Maybe even something like idk operation health…

Anyway, with the Apex roster reaching 21 Legends total in Season 13 with Newcastle, it’s likely that developers will have to put the brakes on the newcomers at some point in the near future.
Major overhauls could be the solution, but they also present a variety of challenges, including how to revamp a Legend without losing the essence of its original design.
