AOC says Biden is losing progressives, millennials

Daring progressive MP Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez says in a new interview President Biden risks “collapsing” his support among progressive and younger party voters.

The second-term New York congresswoman, who represents Queens and the Bronx in Washington, made the remarks during an interview with New York 1 host Errol Louis, in which she discussed Biden’s political struggles as a potentially power-shifting midterm election is near.

“We have to recognize that this isn’t just a middle ground, an ever-shrinking group of independent voters,” the self-proclaimed Democratic Socialist told Louis.

“But this is really about the breakdown of support among young people, among the Democratic base, who feel like they’ve been working overtime to get this President elected, and they’re not necessarily being seen.”

She made the statement as part of a lengthy exchange about Biden’s low poll numbers and how she thinks Democrats could avert a blow in November’s congressional election that the party that controls the White House normally takes.

“It’s Biden’s power and ability to write off student debt and nobody else,” she told Louis, referring to a promise Biden made during the campaign to take $10,000 off every college student’s debt, a progressive one Topic of conversation that the White House has yet to meet.

Progressives like Ocasio-Cortez and their “Squad” colleagues in Congress insist Biden has the power to eliminate that amount — and potentially much more — through executive action, eliminating any chance that more conservative Democrats or Republicans will use him in the Congress could hold .

“From his plummeting approval ratings, you’d think they’d be willing to try something other than going down the hard re-election route. Do you have the feeling whether you are open to it or not?” asked Ludwig.

Ocasio-Cortez responded that Biden was still considering it, but warned that “administration’s time is running out.”

She added, “And we don’t have much time to wait because with these poll numbers falling, I don’t believe in governing by polls.” AOC says Biden is losing progressives, millennials
