AOC criticizes migrant buses as “crimes against humanity”

Republican governors who ship migrants to liberal cities are committing “crimes against humanity,” rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez said.

“It is appalling that far-right politicians seem to have decided that the fall before an election is their regular time to commit crimes against humanity against refugees,” she says said in a tweet Friday evening. “Don’t normalize this. The lying and human trafficking for TV and clicks is not politics as usual. It’s abuse.”

For months, Texas has bused migrants into so-called “safety cities” like New York, Washington DC and Chicago to pressure the Biden administration to take more action to secure the US border. At least 11,000 new migrants have landed in the Big Apple since May.

Since then, the situation has only escalated as other states like Arizona and Florida have also started sending migrants north, including 50 migrants who were flown to Martha’s Vineyard. The move caused mass chaos on the island. The National Guard eventually called out 125 soldiers to deal with the situation and the migrants were bussed away from the vineyard.

Vineyard residents claimed they had no services or space for the migrants, despite dozens of properties available on Airbnb. Others suggested that former President Obama could open his sprawling estate to the migrants.

“What many Republican politicians fail to understand is that not all share their zero-sum scarcity mentality.” AOC said earlier Friday. “Many of us understand that immigrants and refugees are a blessing.
