Antony Sher: RSC actor dies at 72


Sir Antony Sher died because cancer 72 years old.

Legendary actor, best known for his Shakespeare performance, is diagnosed with terminal illness in September.

His husband, Gregory Doran, the artistic director of Royal Shakespeare Company, took a leave of absence to care for him.

On Friday (December 3), RSC confirmed that Sher, who was the company’s longtime artist collaborator, had passed away.

Acting artistic director Catherine Mallyonsaid: “We are deeply saddened by this news, and we extend our sincere condolences to Greg, Antony’s family and their friends at this traumatic time.

“Antony has enjoyed a long relationship with RSC and an immensely popular career on stage and screen. Antony’s final production with the Company was in two hands Kunene and The King, was written by his friend and South African actor, writer and activist, John Kani. ”
